Showdown: April 14th at 2pm at Opus119!
Sarah Infini Takagi comes from Boston, where she is on the piano faculty at the New England Conservatory and is the former chair of the piano department at Wellesley College. As a classical pianist, she has performed at Weil Recital@Carnegie hall, John F. Kennedy Center, PBS television, radio and has performed over a dozen concerti with orchestras across the country. In addition, she has emerged as an improviser where her CD of original improvisations “@Play” has been released on CDBaby. She is also a composer writing for various mediums, most recently, her solo piano work “Ocean Voices” was premiered at the Planetary conference in University of British Columbia, and her folk pop song “We Are Infinite” featuring her piano/voice students with original choreography has received over 5k views on You Tube. In addition, she is known for her daring performances outside of piano -performing as an actress in comedy skits, as a dancer with the rock band “Egg Queen”, and most recently as an emerging Jazz vocalist where she has performed with top musicians in clubs in Boston and in Tokyo.
Her unpredictable daring multi -disciplinary approach comes from her deep commitment to the concept of Infinity and unconditional acceptance, which is part of her spiritual practice. As a reiki master and healer, her approach is to bring balance to her contexts. As a classical musician, she feels the importance of bringing back the spirit of Play-full-ness which she feels balances the often rigid, demanding structure and culture of classical music.
