Harvard University letter to Opus119 student John Austin. John is currently a graduate medical student at Stanford

Our Mission is to instill in our students a love and appreciation of music so that they may look beyond the routine of practice and allow music to become a natural and constant part of their lives, a gift to be enjoyed and shared with others.

Opus119 was founded by visionary music educator, pianist Ethan Dong in 2003. Students of Opus119 have received over 2000 prizes and awards, performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Renée Segerstrom Concert Hall, and at Carnegie Recital Hall for more than 60 occasions. Notable International Competition Recognition includes two Grand Prize winners of the Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Competition; three 1st Prize winners at the San Jose International Piano Competition in the Young Musicians Category; two Grand Prize Winners at the Los Angeles Music Center’s Spotlight Awards; two winners of the National YoungArts auditions; 1st Prize at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition; multiple prize at the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, ASU Yamaha/Bosendorfer Piano Competition and Gina Bachauer Junior Piano Competition. Our students have been honored to work with world class professionals who have given masterclasses at Opus119.

I want you to know how much I enjoyed your performances.  The Liszt is bristling with style, and the Bach is very clearly drawn.” Stanford Professor letter to Opus119 student Dennis Fang who was accepted to Stanford University.

Opus119’s Faculty Team is comprised of outstanding musicians trained in many prestigious universities, colleges, and conservatories. They hold undergraduate and graduate degrees from institutions such as Yale, Curtis, Johns Hopkins, Juilliard, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, to name a few. However, these academic credentials are not the only reason our faculty team produces remarkable results in development of our students.

Our team understands that every child is different and not one teaching style fits everyone. Through communication, they share ideas; it often sheds light on matters from different point of view, allowing them to explore various facets of teaching. They tirelessly map out student’s curriculum plan to assure a healthy, efficient, and effective progress.
